Tuk Siglit Drummers & Dancers
The troupe uses songs and chants to recount Inuvialuit legends, stories, and traditions, all to the rhythmic beat of drums.
Siglitmiut is the name for the coastal group of the Inuvialuit, and Siglitun is their language; this dynamic young group from Tuktoyaktuk is committed to keeping the traditions of drumming and dancing thriving in their community. They meet twice weekly throughout the year to practice. Joe Nasogaluak says he and co-founder Darrel (Laga) Nasogaluak see themselves more as proud mentors or coaches than group leaders: “the kids have taken over now!”
